January is almost over and the modding tools are almost ready! Let’s take a look at some of what’s coming in the next update:
Players can now create their own enemies! It’s possible to edit their basic attributes such as HP, EXP, Gold, drop items and fully customize their whole encounter.
All enemies in HC2 have their encounters divided into stages. Each stage has its own attack type and selects a random image from a predefined pool of photos. Players can create and customize these stages by choosing the attack type, the stage transition condition and using photos of their favorite girls, allowing them to create entirely new enemies without writing a single line of code.
Since Ren’Py loads images based on file names, the tool helps users by clearly showing what each image should be named and automatically checking whether the files exist in the correct location. If something is missing or incorrectly named, the tool will display a warning.
Beyond enemy creation, the modding tools also include a Mod Manager, which lists all custom enemies and allows them to be enabled, disabled, edited, or even used to replace any vanilla enemy. This gives players the freedom to remove enemies they don’t enjoy and replace them with custom ones instead.
The new stable version is almost ready. The only remaining tasks are adding a few more stage transition conditions and fully implementing a dedicated area for modded enemies.
That said, there’s still plenty planned for future updates: enemy dialogue support, mod distribution, UI improvements, the ability to choose the next stage, control over how many photos each stage uses, and more.
One important thing we’ll need to evaluate is how this tool behaves on different operating systems. At the moment, it doesn’t seem to work properly on macOS, so your feedback will be extremely valuable in helping get it running smoothly across other platforms.
Just like the game itself, the Enemy Creation Tool will continue to evolve over time, with new features and usability improvements planned for the long term.
Alongside the modding tools, new gameplay content has also been added, including two new enemies: Frankie and Cordellia.
Hero Corruption 2 version 2.0 is scheduled for release on Tuesday, February 3rd.
